I re-read the shining recently and it was soooooooo good! I really didn’t appreciate it the first time around - I guess because I had a lot of expectations as a fan of the movie. But this time around I got so much more out of it. I think its great how Stephen King can play around with your feelings for the characters - making you dislike Jack one minute and finding yourself empathising with him the next. I think its incredible that he can make his reader cheer on a man who wants to murder his wife and son.
I’d never read any other Stephen King novels before but this made me want to check him out some more. I read Carrie (which I was pretty disappointed with - again I liked how King could make the readers’ loyalties switch on a dime between Carrie and her classmates but I just found the whole story pretty shallow ) and I bought The Stand a couple of days ago - looking forward to getting stuck in but judging by the size of the thing it might take me a while!
