General European Movie Talk

[quote=“tarantino_is_god”]
I read this article in a dutch newspaper about how european cinema has sold its strenghts and authenticity.

We make poor clones of american movies and, when you talk about “european cinema” you automatically think about movies from other era’s…

what are your opinions on this? has european cinema lost its touch? what can be done about this money pressure? The french subsidize their projects and demand that there are a percentage of quality french films in cinema’s…so I have read…

losing its touch? well first off i think cinema in its entirely is losing its touch, including European Cinema, it will never be the way it was in the 60’s and 70’s, we kicked ass back then, everyone’s ass, don’t get me wrong, i still think Italy is thé best movie country out there, America has never been able to top em, which i think is great

But if we can’t get back to the quality we deliverd in the 60’s and 70’s we can get back to the mindstate Europe had back then about their films, “we don’t need America, we can become popular, rich & famous right here, i can be heard on my own ground” which has totally gone

9 out of 10 European directors try to make a film in their lifetime that gets them overseas, get american actors an oscar nomination and big in the states, you don’t need that, you can build your own empire and fanbase right here, we should stop getting influenced by American cinema and start getting influenced by our own past in films, look at what Italy and France alone have accoplished over the years, it’s redicilous how much absolutely great things they’ve done, if they weren’t there there would be a big hole in cinema now

all European cinema has to be told now is “you can do this on your own, you are great at what you do”, a little fuckin confidence maybe, go back to make some epics, great things, have fun, in the 60’s, Italians saw Americans make westerns and thought “hey, we can do that” and they fuckin’ killed em at it, spaghetti westerns with a whole lot of cheese on top, balls out shootings, they cut out the boring romantic plots from American westerns and created their own genre out of it, they did the same with crime films in the 70’s, we need to go back to doing stuff like that, all of us, not ‘copying’ American films (which is done too much as it is) but create our own little genre, kick ass, show what we can do, have a little fuckin confidence, make 100% European produced flicks and rule at it
