Laurence of Arabia
A Bridge to Far
Patton
Battleship Potemkin
The General
Theres too many to have a poll!!!
I’m no huge fan of the war genre but I loved The Killing Fields, I cried so much in the end.
I picked Full Metal Jacket. The first half, during boot camp, makes that my favorite.
I think we got a new contender come November ‘Jarhead’ by Sam Mendes

Platoon.
Another great war movie is Brian de Palma’s “Casualties of war”.
The Big Red One and The Battle Of Algiers
Platoon is the greatest war movie 8)
I’m not a big fan of war movies in general, there are a few exceptions, like the greats apocolypse, private ryan, casualties, Bridge on Kwia, full metal (first half anyway), that’s about it when it comes to serious war movies. But I do like DD and Kelly’s Heroes, they’re are substantially different, are there any great war films like these 2 that anyone has seen?
Von Ryan’s Express (1965) with Frank Sinatra. Love the final scenes. Some greeat suspence too.
how about Sam Peckinpah’s highly original cross of iron and the greatest movie ever, lawrence of arabia
Picked THE THIN RED LINE because that one, for me, really stands out in the whole “genre”. But i like APOCALYPSE NOW as much as LINE, these two are my favourites.
Full Metal Jacket.
The Deer Hunter
Where’s Terminator 2: Judgement Day? ;D
Full Metal Jacket ;D
Oh my god, I suppose the movie in bold is the one you voted for… in that case someone has hacked my password, logged in, voted for Apocalypse Now… Cause I sure don’t remember doing that. The Deer Hunter would have two votes now

KING RAT - Based on a story by James Clavelle

That was a good one. George Segall feeding ze Germans rats!

I chose Das Boot. What a great movie, particulary the long TV Version.

Although Das Boot is my favorite war-film, I have to say this is one instance where I prefer the short version. 200-minute films can work occasionally, but not when 95% of that time is spent in a submarine.
I still haven’t seen Apocalypse Now, Platoon or The Thin Red Line, so I won’t vote. However, I have the 2 first on DVD, so maybe I’ll get around to watching them eventually.
