I didn’t like Casualities of War, too dramatic, too much moral. I like the more ambiguous war movies. Like Apocalypse Now or The Deer Hunter. And seriously, Mr Pink, I don’t understand why you so hate those movies. Cause based on your post :
You never explain why you dislike those movies, and you only use the joker argument “the director is bad”. Since you don’t explain neither why Coppola has done a bad directing work, it just seems (to me) that you dislike it cause he’s italian american. And to be a veteran doesn’t prove you’re a) a better war movie director, b) more qualified to talk about the war.
I hate Oliver Stone. His way to be political has nothing subtle, on the contrary of Coppola or Cimino. He just yells on everybody’s roof what he thinks, so that the masses can understand him, why that ? War isn’t easy to understand, and it’s not cause you’ve been fighting with the americans in Vietnam that they’re right, or if you’ve been sick of the war, that Vietnam was right and the USA are the only one to blame.
Apocalypse Now is the best example to prove you, you can’t hate both parts. You can hate Brando in the movie but you’re still fascinated by him. And in the end he’s as fucked up as Sheen and both were war heroes (in the movie). You’ll never know which one Coppola defend or love the most. He’s obviously criticising the war but his fascination for it, for the extreme behaviors in this war proves us that he’s not that distant about the war. And to be a big mouth like Stone doesn’t prove he’s understood the war more than Coppola.
But I’d like to understand your point of view, not just your criticism. Give us some arguments, it’s an interesting discussion.

Apocalypse Now was crap because it was barely about the war when Platoon was. Platoon is more acurate and dont tell me it wasnt when it was written and directed by a Vietnam veteran when Apocalypse Now was directed by Francis Ford Coppola a fat, disgusting piece of monkey crap. Thats my point.
