Ok, this isn’t really QT trivia, I just didn’t know where else to put it and didn’t want to make a new thread.
Basically, when I watched Death Proof yesterday and noticed that Jungle Julia says she’s upset about I think it’s Chris Simonson when he doesn’t call her on her birthday or something. I can’t quite remember, but she is annoyed anyway over something that didn’t happen on her birthday. Then later, Abernathy is pissed that the director Cecil Evans slept with Daryl Hannah’s stand in on Abaernathy’s birthday, and they have quite a few lines centred around her birthday. It just made me think that QT thinks a lot of birthdays (or thinks girls think a lot of birthdays). That it’s a sacred day, so much so that he hints towards its significance in his movie twice, from two different characters.
Well I just finished watchin True Romance and it turns out Clarence’s boss, Lance, sets up a call-girl for Clarence on his birthday. But not only that, this girl is actually the love of his life. I just found it interesting that I took heed of the birthday thing in DP, and then to notice it in TR, too. It’s clear to me that Quentin puts importance on a birthday. Also, I think TR and DP are his most personal films. TR more so, as it has many (semi)autobiographical aspects. And you can tell DP is very personal to him not just with having things in it that he probably has in his real life, but how he went about making it all (it’s wayyy different to anything else he’s done).
