Here’s the thing: Death Proof, along with Planet Terror, was one movie in the form of Grindhouse. Not unlike Four Rooms - a couple of friends get together and make an anthology / double feature and it’s released as one movie. Well QT was fully aware of this, but he should have called it quits after it failed instead putting DP out on its own an The 5th Film byt QT. He was naive in thinking he could add another half hour to the movie and putting it as his next feature… I think that further hurt his credibility quite a lot. I wouldn’t have minded as much if he would have kept it as Grindhouse and people could take it or leave it. But when he tried this, coming over to UK and promoting it as such, everyone was like, “Wha?”
It was a very lazy and poor thing to do in my opinion.
