Critics Reaction to Basterds

Yeah, the talkie observation is kinda weird. Did they only watch KB from QT? Still, the reviews are very split, it’s either one of his best or his worst. Kinda hard to know LOL.

Since I loved the script - frankly I couldn’t put it down -, and in every reviews, even the bad ones, I see the acting is excellent, so I still hope for the better.

Its either love it or hate it…

I’d say it’s neither. :stuck_out_tongue: Can’t be worse than Death Proof like, so, er, somewhere above that. I wonder if I’ll like it more than Kill Bill. That will be an interesting one. I knew it would divide though!

The Guardian takes a good aim at Brad Pitt…

Can you also add if there are spoilers or not? I’m so afraid of reading something that will ruin the suspense.

Don’t read any reviews if you don’t want spoilers…

I can’t imagine going to see this film with the sole intention of watching for minor shit to bitch about. You can tell most of these “critics” didn’t go in with an open mind. Understandable, with a Tarantino flick as anticipated as this one, but it seems a lot of them just want to be the Simon Cowell of film critics. Like they exaggerate the negativity.

If take out the exaggeration, their reviews seem less harsh. Still, there are some really positive ones. No doubt this is a typical Tarantino flick. Splits people right down the middle.

Yep stay. I read a big one without even a faint warning.

You just seemed to have predicted alot of the reaction to the movie, that’s all. And what am i eating for breakfast, as long as we’re on the subject?

Reading the bad reviews, I am under the impression people went to the screening with the movie already pictured in their mind. “It didn’t meet my expectation”, but what were their expectations?

Well at least, nobody is telling the movie is ridiculous.

It also had been marketed as a complete WWI actioner starring Brad Pitt. Only those who read the script knew that wasn’t true. So that’s probable where some of the exaggeration about “to talkie” etc. are coming from.

Yeah, I know you bitched about the trailer too. Being misleading.

I even read in a review, “I didn’t like it, not enough basterds and scalping”. Talk me about misleading. This reception kinda reminds me of Jackie Brown.

That was why I was so shocked to hear Pitt’s accent and see alot of the early images from the movie, they were the last thing I envisioned on reading the script.

No doubt alot of these “people” were expecting and watching the flick with baggage that only a movie with this much hype can present. Of course it didn’t help that from the moment QT’s been talking up the movie he’s been calling it his masterpiece…

That’s somewhat to do with what Noir Fiction posted yesterday about my stance. Note: I’m not a hater. I just want another QT cracker with no exceptions.

Oh, um. How about peanut butter and jelly samiches?

Yeah, but I liked the trailer, and would have loved to see that movie, not all action of course, but with it’s mix of both. One thing I think might be too much is the contrast of all the things he’s incorporating into one.

I knew that marketing would come around and bite some people in the ass. I don’t know who these people are yet but somebody’s going to be getting some asses bitten…

You don’t have to read the script, but especially because I had read the script, that that trailer was sadly misrepresenting the flick it was promoting.

or maybe these cats just don’t like QT.

What I fear about this is that it could be lacking a lot of substance Kill Bill Vol. 2 had. That was the most perfect Tarantino film. (Even though PF is my favourite). KB2 had the most detailed character depth I’ve seen in any of his movies.
