Concerts you've been to this year

Any Germans from Stuttgart on this board? There’s a good chance I’ll be catching KISS in concert on the 18th of June. CAN’T FUCKING WAIT!

I went to see Shout Out Louds, a swedish indie pop band, was really cool in an indie club next to my place in Paris.

Vewy nice!

So far this year I have seen (single concerts):

The Wombats, Babyshambles, Adam Green, Blood Red Shoes, Los Campesinos!, Hot Chip…hhhmmm probably some more…

And on the excellent London Calling festival I saw most of these bands:

Mystery Jets, The Ting Tings, Get Cape. Wear Cape. Fly, Cage The Elephant, Late of the Pier, Make Model, Blood Red Shoes, The Rascals, One Night Only, Pete and The Pirates, Friendly Fires, Joe Lean and the Jing Jang Jong, Johnny Foreigner, Get Shakes, Florence and The Machine, The Metros, DeAD KIDS, Let’s Wrestle, Ipso Facto, Broken Records, Video Nasties, Baltic Fleet, Exile Parade, i!AMYOU

You know I envy you :stuck_out_tongue:

Btw a friend of mine could only have a single invit to get into a “private session” of The Kooks. Too bad I couldn’t go there with her, she tried the hardest she could but no way she had another invit.

Anyone going to any music festivals this summer? I kinda wanted to go to T in the Park, which is just a short drive from where I live, but couldn’t get tickets. I didn’t buy any when the line-up was first announced because I either didn’t like most of the bands or had seen them live already. But as soon as the tickets sold out a lot of my favourite bands started to sign up! >:(

Anyway, I don’t think T in the Park is as good a festival as it used to be. I used to go when I was younger and it really used to focus hard on the music so you got real fans showing up who appreciated it more. Now I think its become far too comercialised. Now I know loads of people who go for the whole three days and don’t even go watch one band play!

Still, there are some smaller festivals appearing in Scotland to rival T in the Park and, maybe some day, I might make it down to Glastonbury! Some of the Scandinavian ones look great and South by Southwest looks great for new independent bands. What are your local music festivals like?

Evolve!!! drugs Drugs DRUGS!!!

Actually, I’m not into the drug scene anymore, at least not chemicals, but it’s a wicked place to be regardless. The nicest people from all over Canada, some of the US and even as far as Australia come to see local DJ’s and bands, and international groups too. It’s a ridiculously fun 3 day outdoor concert.

Are Canadian music festivals drug-crazy crack dens? It is possible to enjoy music without drugs! I think your festivals are different to British ones!

Ok, I thought you were telling me to “evolve”! Checked out your link and I get it now! It looks good, beautiful location - are you going?

This year I’ve seen Indica and Misfits. I got the singer’s plectrum from the former, bruises and a sore neck from the latter.

Not going to any festivals. I don’t really like the athmosphere on festivals but I would’ve gone if Rage Against the Machine came to Finland.

Yeah, I would love to see them live - they’re playing at T dammit!

Not in general. This one is, because it’s kind of a hippy/raver fest, but it’s also the best weekend of the year. If I died tommorow, I hope heaven is like evolve.

I make it sound like it’s all about drugs, and almost everyones on a lot of drugs, but the vibe there is like no where else. The nicest people within a thousand mile radius come there. It’s like meeting up with 6,000 really old friends and having a massive camping trip. You’d think it would be sketchy, especially for a girl, to wonder around in a giant field on a massive hill in the middle of the woods at night surrounded by drunk/drugged up lunatics, but I’ve never had a problem. The only problem is to many people inviting you to their campgrounds or wanting to go on adventures. Theres to much to do and to many wonderful people to meet. The music itself is only about 1/4 of the fun.

Heres an amazing video of a guy from my hometown, where the festival is. There was an intense thunder and lightening storm. You don’t need to watch it all, just til 2:44 when the beat breaks…the lightening and everything, it was perfect…

Techno is big there, but so is jazz, folk, old school rock, etc. And everywhere you turn theres a drum circle. Last year a bunch of people even brought fiddles and were rocking out with the drummers with those, it was awesome.

That would bore me to death! I can’t stand dance music.

There are at least four stages going at any given time, and only one is playing dance music at once.

I’m not crazy about dance music, but some of it is amazing, just like I’m not incredibly into hip-hop, but the they’re some of the best shows there. Music is music, and it can all be enjoyed on some level.

I think they have some US dates planned once they finish touring Europe. After 35 years, they still know how to put up a fucking show. Shame they’re not planning to release some new material though.

hopefully i should be watching opeth in september, cant wait!

I’ve been waiting for the Hold Steady to come play in Scotland for so long and they’ve finally decided to do it - the week I’m not gonna be in the country! Irony? Bought my tickets for Kings of Leon in Dec though which sort of makes up for it.

My first/last concert…

http://blamo.org/sp/tour/581.html

Smashing Pumpkins and Red Red Meat. April 8, 1994. It was the day Kurt Cobain’s body was found. My uncle took my brother and I, and I suppose it was because of us having to travel all the way to Biloxi - but we had no idea Cobain was dead. The opening band comes out and dedicates their set to Kurt, and we’re just looking at each other going “Wow, they must be fans!”. Then the Pumpkins played a Nirvana song and once again, we were totally clueless, just figured Billy was paying tribute. Then, on the way home we stop at McDonald’s and I overheard a group of guys outside talking about Cobain. I remember telling my uncle “Man, they must have been at the concert too and talking about the band’s paying tribute to Nirvana!”. A couple of hours later we get home and find out from my mom, and everything fell into place as we turned on MTV.

I don’t really have the friends to go out all the time to concerts (or the free time, work seven days a week), my cousin and I don’t share the same tastes in music and I don’t drink and can’t stand being around drunk people - so I’m more likely to be found at the house most nights. Still, that one time was pretty memorable haha!

Wow that’s a crazy story. I don’t really get to as many gigs as I’d like because its so expensive and I have to travel quite far but I do try to make it to see the bands I’m really into.
