It was a reference to the political fight between Calvin Coolidge Vs Woodrow Wilson. But it was also the last name of the boxer Terry Malloy (Marlon Brando) fights in On The Waterfront (Directed By Elia Kazan 1954). Another film where the boxers supposed to throw the fight but doesnt, and ends up getting in trouble.
