Brüno (Baron Cohen)

I get where you’re coming from there, it does seem that a lot of comedy films are falling back on grossing out he audience. I don’t think smart comedies are going to go down without a fight though  (case in point - “In The Loop.” Check it out if you get the chance - it’s out in the US today).

EDIT: In fact I’m going to start a fucking thread for it. Linky-poos: <LINK_TEXT text=“http://www.tarantino.info/forum/index.p … 037.0.html”>http://www.tarantino.info/forum/index.php/topic,10037.0.html</LINK_TEXT>

People settle for shit, that’s the problem. They’ve forgotten what a true comedy is. To each its own, I say.

There’s no such thing as “true” comedy. Comedy is too versatile. There may be only way to laugh but there are MANY ways to make people laugh. Billy Wilder’s Some Like it Hot isn’t the epitome of funny.

Shit evolves, get over it.

True. But for some reason comedy has devolved.

Exactly. Sense of humor is one of the single most subjective things w/ us humans.

What one person may find hilarious, another may not even smirk at.

In some cases.

Napoleon Dynamite was a dumb and empty attempt at awkward absurdism but then you get stuff like Wet Hot American Summer and it’s brilliant.

Comedy hasn’t devolved. You just have to know where to look.

There’s always been daft comedy, and there probably always will be, you just have to know where to look for the good stuff.

Yeah, I guess I was just generalizing. Obviously if you search hard enough you’ll find something you like but that’s true of every art form. My point is that, with comedy movies, if your brain’s developed past that of a fourteen year old you have to work even harder to find something enjoyable than you would with any other genre of film.

Besides the heat this is what I hate most about summer. People just turn their brains off when it comes to movies and use “it’s fun, that’s all it needs to be” as an excuse for some of the shittiest movies we’ll see all year. For some reason when it’s hot out standards drop to shockingly low levels.

Because it is all about making money!

It’s always about the money. Why do we need to settle for common denominator bullshit during the summer?

They’re already saying this about the new G.I Joes movie. “It’s got nothing to do with the G.I. Joes you grew up with, the plot is pointless and the pretty action scenes are simply that. But it’s a fun summer romp!”

I was being sarcastic.

WE don’t need to settle but those who think movies are entertainment do. Empty-headed freaks who wonder through multiplexes looking for their next hit. Some would suck dick for a ticket to the newest must-see 3D CGI blast fest with about as much intelligence as the lastest Ron Jeremy arthouse effort.

Damn you. Damn you and your intelligent response causing sarcasm!

EDIT: YOU HEAR ME!!!??

AAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAHHHHHHHHHHHHHHH! I’M SICK OF TRYING TO PLEASE YOU!!!

Uhm, I’m not going to spend money to see Bruno. I’d rather spend the money on a twelve pack. Of beer. Or Pepsi, since I can catch a matinee at my nearest theater for only $3.

Or Beer Pepsi.

Or Beer Pepsi.

I’ve actually sort of done that before. Not intentionally. Had a can of beer, and set it down by the computer, then grabbed the wrong can and took a big swig of day old Pepsi. Not a very pleasing outcome.

I’d buy that for a dollar!

Without looking through this page, is Bruno worth a ticket?

Thank you my good sir.
