The Great Lie
I saw it a few minutes ago for the first time, it was rather good, it felt like a novella if anything else. Mary Astor actually won the Academy Award for Best Actress for playing concert pianist Sandra Novak who stops at nothing to win the love of her ex-Husban, Pete (George Brent). And of course there was Bette Davis and George Brent - both of these actors have collaborated several times, most notably in Dark Victory. Suprisingly I didn’t grow weary of the plot, somehow Edmund Goulding keeps the story vividly active, and above all you have sympathy for the antagonist which is Mary Astor, she’s hilarious in her pregnancy stage - I don’t want to explain everything cuz no one is probably going to read this. But watch the movie, you’ll like it. I think it’s on youtube.
