Hell yeah! I totally agree. Daniel Day Lewis is one of the greatest actors in history. Just look at his performances in Gangs of New York and The Age of Innonence. Both are by the same director and set in 1800’s New York City, but Lewis’ performances in both are so distinctive that you can have both Newland Archer and Bill the Butcher in the same movie sharing every scene and not realize they’re being played by the same actor.

too bad he doesnt do alot of movies, but the ones he does do are excellent!

Woody Harrelson in Kingpin or Kevin Spacey in American Beauty

Ill do a list

  1. Robert DeNiro - Taxi Driver
  2. Marlon Brando - The Godfather
  3. Humphrey Bogart - Casablanca
  4. Orson Welles - Citizen Kane
  5. Ray Liotta - Goodfellas

and Joaquin Phoenix - Walk the Line

everyone on that list deserves the title in my opinion, its so hard to decide on one performance… Also Morgan Freeman in shawshank?

Robert De Niro in Raging Bull. My all time favorite performance.

Runner up would have to be Jack Nicholson in One Flew Over the Cuckoo’s Nest and Marlon Brando in a Streetcar Named Desire. I actually don’t like a Streetcar Named Desire, but Brando made the movie watchable for me and its probably the single most iconic performance of all time. It changed the way actors…well, acted afterwards.

Robert DeNiro in Scent of a Woman
