Out November

Two question.

I keep hearing that Kurasawa created the blood spattered thing when somone gets cut with a sword, but which movie was the first one he did it on?

What is the best Kurasawa movie in your opinion? (myself I’ve only seen sanjuro)

My favorites are: Seven Samurai, Yojimbo, Hidden Fortress, Ran and Kagemusha

Ran is a definite classic. Yojimbo and Seven Samurai are favourites of mine. But you should also check out Drunken Angel, Ikiru and I live in fear (not jidaigeki films, but great films nonetheless).

Sanjuro

i dont think anyone could ever doubt that Seven Samurai is his best, it just is, Hidden Fortress is his most underrated one, the story is amazing

I haven’t seen it for 10 years, so I can’t remember much about it. But it’s about a man who has worked hard for all his life, never taken a day off from work, then he finds out he’s seriusly ill, he only has little time left and he realizes has never really lived or experienced anything important in life…

… I think. Like I said, it was about 10 years ago and I’m surprised I still remember this much…

sounds very interesting! need to rent it when i get ze money

The best Kurosawa film is Seven Samurai, followed by Rashomon (the premise has been copied so many times in other movies it’s not even funny) and Kagemusha. Still a lot by him I need to see though

Just watched Hidden Fortress, your right totally underrated, I need to see Ran and Seven Samurai

i love hidden fortress!

Well I do not know a lot about Akira Kurosawa but I do know that I was influenced to become a writer after watching Pulp Fiction. So QT is the most influential flim maker to me. It is hard to say a certain director is the most influential to everybody though because there are way 2 many movies I think to judge that. I will go out and see some Akira Kurosawa movies and see if I recognize anything that is used a lot in other movies I have seen.

Saying one director is the most influential out of all of them, well as Vincent Vega said in Pulp Fiction. “That’s a bold statement”

Also if in a movie you think they took it from Akira maybe they did it themselves but it just so happens Akira did it first. That’s why I think there can’t be one director who is the most influential, I mean there are so many movies and filmmakers to where I dont think I could say that.

Kurosawa was influenced by John ford and shakespeare

There are alot of directors out there that people are influenced by Kurosawa,Quentin Tarantino,De palma, Sam Peckinpah,Oliver Stone,Sergio Leone,Howard Hawks, Its really hard to decide who the most influencial director is.

for those who have The Fox Movie Channel, Kagemusha comes on Wednesday the 14th at 7pm

The most recent issue of Sight and Sound (with Penelope Cruz on the cover in a scene from Pedro Almodovor’s ‘Volver’) has an article on Kurosawa Akira’s top actor. No not Mifune Toshirô but Shimura Takashi. Very good indeed and it is written by Alex Cox or should that be Cox Alex?

Was that a joke?

Rashomon comes on Turner Classic Movies Tomorrow

Is Rashmon any good?

It’s very good.
