2010 - Track Your Films

Short Night of the Glass Dolls - Trippy but innovative little Giallo. Very much in the artistic vein and almost frustrating in its delivery, as the ending kind of kills your nerves. So many loose ends that don’t really get tied up… it’s not really an easy movie, but I liked it. Might need some time to ponder it though.

The Psychic - Classic Fulci and truthfully one of his better overall films. Beautifully shot and it actually delivers a very tense and suspenseful story. Great stuff and shows how great Fulci could have been if only he were as story focused as he was here on every project.

Zombiemania - Might as well have been a commercial for George A. Romero. No discussion on Italian zombie films, no discussion on Re-Animator… it was just an overblown fluff piece at 50-something minutes. Actually left me kind of mad at the filmmakers, because they had some talented people talking and knowledgeable ones but all they talked about really were Romero’s movies.

Z Channel - I’m sorry, I forget the subtitle but it’s an amazing documentary now available on Netflix Instant Watch. Just AMAZING to me that such an amazing channel could have ever existed. Arthouse and cult film cinema mixed with some mainstream fare. So many extremely obscure movies, if only I had tapes of their programming.
America hasn’t produced any prolific writers, but yeah I like TW, I think you already saw “Suddenly, Last Summer” with Liz Taylor and Montgomery Clift.

Bette Davis did Night Of The Iguana in Broadway, there’s a sad story behind that, she never got along with her co-stars and one of the guys even choked her! That fucking asshole choked a 50 year old Bette Davis on the set! Well after the production wrapped she went to the stage when everyone left and she started to scrub and clean the floor. Tennessee Williams walked up to her and asked what was wrong, she burst into tears and said: “No one likes me, what am I doing here?”. :-</E>

But then Bob Aldrich came into her life and she made Baby Jane and Sweet Charlotte, two great films. Her last memorable film was done the year I was born - in 1987, she did “Whales Of August” with the great Lillian Gish and Vincent Price.
Suddently, Last Summer isn’t my fav from Liz Taylor, nor Monty Clift (who I love too btw), nor Tennesse Williams. It wasn’t that bad though. You should check out A Place in the sun with young Liz Taylor and young Monty CLift.

I loved Baby Jane and Sweet Charlotte, Bette Davis is totally awesome in them, crazy as hell. But there’s still lots of sadness and tenderness coming out of her character, you feel sorry for her cause she almost herself feels sorry not to understand why she’s crazy and acting mad.

I haven’t seen Whales of August but Vincent Price, don’t talk to me about him, I LOVE him. Is the movie any good ? Like really good ?

I already saw A Place In The Sun, I love George Stevens, I actually saw that film on TCM, as well as Shane, Giant, Swing Time, and Gungha Din. But my favorite Liz Taylor film is now “Who’s Afraid of Virginia Woolf?” - that ending was so beautiful, I can’t believe Liz Taylor did a film like this, she really can act. Oh and they mention Bette Davis! They refrence King Vidor’s “Beyond The Forest”, though they got most of the film description wrong - the Liz Taylor character, I got a kick out of that. Jack Warner was a saint when it came to buying good properties, the man knew what made a good film, and he actually bought the property for Bette, but she quit the Warners after in 1949.

You can rent it on Amazon, you won’t be able to buy it because the DVD goes for over 100 dollars on amazon and ebay!

Yes, the film is great it stars Lillian Gish and Bette Davis, I never thought I’d see the day when those two made a film together - the set ain’t big enough for both of 'em!
Who’s afraid of Virginia Woolf is so so great. Elizabeth Taylor is one of the best actress of all time, with Kate Winslet.

Vivien Leigh is awesome, but she’s never been as good as in Gone With the Wind (well, she hasn’t been in much movies anyway). Nevertheless check A Streetcar Named Desire cause she’s great in it and Marlon Brando even more. Plus it’s a Tennessee Williams adaptation, so is Virginia Woolf.
Wait a minute Tennessee Williams did not write the play for Virginia Woolf, I just finished watching the special features and stuff.

Oh yeah righr right, wasn’t it Edward Albee ? The play was from him at least, I don’t remember if he also wrote the screenplay for the movie adaptation. My bad.

he did not.

AWESOME!

Why Criterions are the best but also the most expensive dvd collection ? It’s not fair !

watched 3 movies tonight:

Moon 5/10

Always fascinating to see a situation like this one when filmmakers are very ambitious, yet somhow forget along the way that movies are supposed to be entertaining.

Fanboys 8/10

Funny.

Twilight 4/10

bleh. This movie is going nowhere most of the time. I’ll stay away from the sequel.

So you are giving it a half grade because it doesn’t have Chuck Norris? ;D It was entertaining to me. Not all movies need bad acting with guns and shit blowing up, or the ones that you think are “fun” wouldn’t be anymore, since everything would be the same. Need balance.

I get what you’re saying, but I still think Moon is a great movie for people who prefer books over film. All that psychological stuff, “exploring the human condition”, etc. etc. doesn’t make for a cinematic and entertaining experience…

Moon could have used a good dose of horror or an antagonist/enemy.

You answered it yourself in the question, lil’ :stuck_out_tongue:

Cannibal Holocaust (rewatch) - 5/5

Still one of my favourite movies of all time. The gore isnt as bad as people make it out to be.

Ace Ventura Pet Detective - 2/5

I remember it being much better when I was a little boy.

Ahah, I know. I kind alike to repeat over and over again this dilemna with the Criterions. Especially for us French, they’re even more expensive. Anyway, as soon as I got money and get richer, I’ll buy them !

seriously…?

yes.

What about 2001?

Not Quite Hollywood - 4/5

A good Doc about Ozploitation and QT the man himself is in it. Even the deleted stuff was good info. Must see for “grindhouse”, “exploitation”, or just movie fans.

Fighting - 3/5

I actually liked this movie, but sorry F.W. I don’t really see the in-depth experience in Channing that you see and comparing him to someone from Warhol’s factory (which I like learning about more and more) in Joe Dallesandro, who Channing has probably never even heard of. I liked the movie for what it is and don’t like to make up things that isn’t there.

Moon - 4/5

I think one of the best movies of the year along with Two Lovers. I still need to see Bad Lieutenant, A Single Man, and the Hurt Locker before I make my '09 list.

The King Of Comedy (rewatch) - 5/5

This is in top 2 of my Scorsese favs. Mean Streets the other one.

who gives a fuck if he’s heard of him? they both have this self-concious, low-talent way of turning out a fascinating performance…joe dallesandro had a big dick and a nice body and Paul Morrissey set his lense on that just like Montiel did with Tatum…that’s where the comparison came from, I wasn’t saying Tatum is the next Dallesandro and it’s not like that means anything because all Dallesandro ever did was get his cock sucked and mumble a lot. there’s a depth to it because Montiel grew up on the streets of New York, knows more about them than anyone else making studio genre pictures, gives his film personality and shoots incredibly tender/honest love scenes that are seriously lacking in most studio one-shots these days. Dallesandro was a goodlooking, barely talented dumbass. is that not what you think of Tatum?
