The reason why Casino Royale didn’t feel like Bond, was because he wasn’t yet the James Bond we know, damnit!!! He was getting to that point. He had to go through certain things before he becomes the Bond we know and love. For example, it was after what Vesper Lynd did to him that he grew to basically hate women. He wasn’t yet experienced in killing people, he had to go through that, getting his first kill in this really gritty and harsh way.
It was only till the very end that he became “James Bond”. The famous line, coupled with the first proper time we hear the famous theme and the famous style and sophistication signifies the birth of James Bond. That is why Casino Royale discarded all those Bondesque aspects before this point.
It’s probably my favourite Bond film. Therefore, you can imagine my excitement towards the next film where Bond is actually Bond. The introduction and back story is out of the way, now it’s time for him to kickass. However, Quantum of Solace didn’t do that, it confused itself. If anything, it tried to follow the same format as CS. They left the gun-barrel scene till the end trying to signify that after that he will be the Bond we know. Well why the fuck was that? That already happened in the last film! So QoS was basically a waste of time. It was a pointless time in Bond’s life, where nothing significant really happens. The next one better be good.
What’s more, it’s ridiculous claiming you don’t care if the Bond in CS is how Ian Flemming intended him to be. The fact of the matter is, Bond is a vicious, ruthless secret agent who has that “I don’t give a fuck” attitude whilst at the same time being the best as what he does. He isn’t a fucking comedian, equipped with endless one-liners. He’s a hard man. They continued this tradition in QoS which I thought was the right thing, however, they failed to expand on it.

That was exactly what I was hoping for after seeing CS: Will he eventually turn into the Bond we know? Like you said, it didn’t happen in QOS, and I accepted that. It was a ridicoulously well-made film from an action standpoint. It was VERY exciting. The level of violence and brutality was refreshing. New Bond is a cold, yet intelligent brute. I’m cool with this new Bond, even though he’s not the Bond I prefer.
Why is it ridiculous that I don’t care if movie-Bond follows Fleming’s Bond or not? Eastman and Laird never wanted their violent Ninja Turtles to turn into a kid friendly saturday morning cartoon, but that’s what happened and I love The cartoon, NOT the original comic books. I think this is a good example. I also don’t care if Bob Kane would have gotten a kick out of The Dark Knight, had he lived to see it.
Sometimes the original creators only give us the foundation for a pop culture phenomenon - happened with Bond, Ninja Turtles, Batman, etc.
