Tarantino presents: My name is Modesty

I just got an email that pointed to a french website, and there I could see a DVD of the Scott Spiegel movie “My name is Modesty” and on the Cover it sais on bold letters “Quentin Tarantino presents”.

The DVD was from Miramax.

Anyone know more about this?

That’s a link:

http://us.imdb.com/title/tt0347591/combined

As it says on the imdb:

Produced in order for Miramax to retain the rights to Modesty Blaise. Produced as a prequel to the popular spy comic strip, plans call for this film to be followed by more Blaise movies taking place during the timeframe of the comic strip.

Basically, they’ve made this film to keep their rights to make a “real” Modesty Blaise film. They probably had it in their contract that they had to make one film within a certain number of years, so instead of making a “real” movie, they made this low-budget film while waiting. It’s probably crap, but it looks really cool judging by the cover.

I’d say QT’s producing the movie. That’s my guess.

no, that is wrong. He’s presenting it, that may mean, than - because Mirama is releasing it - QT just offered his name to market the film.

If it’s french, than he might be producing it in a way. He might be helping with making the US DVD. Supervising the special features and whatnot. He did it with Iron Monkey.

He would have to produce it in some way, right? Why would QT, or anyone, throw out their name to some random fucking movie for no reason? I wouldn’t want someone using my name for some sleazy dude’s profit.

Lol, Dead Nigger Storage presents… I don’t think anyone would want to buy my movie

Maybe he´s just interested in what Scott Spiegel does. In fact he helped to produce “FDTD 2”, didn´t he.

Scott Spiegel is one of QTS best friends. QT used to sleep on Scotts couch back when he was trying to get into the movie biz. Scott is the guy who introduced QT to Lawrence Bender too.

I havent seen this film yet, but I’m sure QT is helping him out by producing the film or whatever.

yeah, Spiegel is the one who brought Bender and Tarantino together.

Isn’t Spiegel the director of Texas Blood Money?  QT should stop making his name appear on the cover of such shitty movies.

I haven´t seen this one, but Spiegel himself is almost a legend: Writer, director, actor, Fake Shemp  ;D.

Close friend to Sam Raimi 8).

Decided to do a little research on this, so hears what i came up with, i know some of it’s quite old but hey, i’d never heard of it! Anyway in brief:

http://www.comics2film.com/ProjectFrame.php?f_id=127

“The article reports that casting is already under way with announcements expected in a few weeks. Although Quentin Tarantino has long been attached to the project he will not be directing.”

<LINK_TEXT text=“http://film.guardian.co.uk/News_Story/E … 86,00.html”>Casting news: Modesty Blaise returns to the big screen | Movies | The Guardian</LINK_TEXT>

“It is understood that Quentin Tarantino, who owns the US rights to the Modesty books, will not be directing.”

<LINK_TEXT text=“http://www.corona.bc.ca/~corona/films/d … laise.html”>http://www.corona.bc.ca/~corona/films/details/modestyblaise.html</LINK_TEXT>

“Quentin Tarantino and Neil Gaiman are both being considered as screenwriters with Luc Besson rumored to direct.”

“Quentin Tarantino still longs to direct an epic about his favourite heroine–it is no coincidence that Modesty Blaise is the book Vincent Vega reads on the throne in Pulp Fiction–but has never been satisfied with the scripts that have come his way. So it is left to Miramax to await a completed screenplay from Janet ScottBatchler and Lee Batchler; their film, if the rumours circulating on the internet are to be believed, will be called My Name Is Modesty.”

“Director Scott Spiegel. The proposed next film will be “Presented by Quentin Tarantino” but he will not produce. I don’t know wheter this movie will be released or will go straight to video and DVD.”

“Tarantino presents…” is a common marketing tool from Miramax. In france, they released the b-movie “my name is modesty” under the “tarantino presents…” headline. anyways, its coming to DVD in the US, too.
