Hey! a local film was showing it, they were showing previously banned films at the cinema or on home video and it was EXCELLENT! i also got to see Natural Born Killers.
Banned movies? Is that a European thing or something? (I’m an ignorant, curious American.)

If you want ot know about a rating of a movie in GB, just go to this site:

There you can search for the rating of a director or a movie.
Keep in mind, that a move can be cutted in different versions and this leads to different ratings. And it happens from time to time that a DVD has a higher rating, becuz of the Features! This means, that a movie can be rated 15, but cuz the DVD includes extra scenes (rated 18) as a Feature, the DVD is rated 18!

‘Reservoir Dogs’ works well on the big screen and with an audience. I saw it when it came out on a reissue.

Well, no it doesn’t. However the fact that the film was so popular and that there was much huffing and puffing with the British Board of Film Classification about whether or not to allow a video release of Reservoir Dogs it meant that cinemas would keep showing it. Sometimes special midnight only showings. So, for a while, the only way you could see Dogs in Britain was at the cinema. Quentin Tarantino was tickled pink by this, he would pick up a copy of London’s ‘Time Out’ and his jaw would drop, “It’s still playing?!?!” So Reservoir Dogs was not banned it was just only allowed on a certain format (cinema). Same with Straw Dogs in Britain. Before it was allowed a DVD release one could only see it in the cinema in Britain. The fear was that a would-be rapist would isolate the rape scene with Susan George and play it over and over and get excited by it. It was impossible to cut the film, as it is impossible to cut a scene from Reservoir Dogs (the storytelling in that film is so tight), so the BBFC decided that it would reject a video release.
Natural Born Killers was not banned in Britain only cut, although now there is a special edition with the cut scenes reinstated.

Back to seeing it on the big screen. What makes Reservoir Dogs superb ‘big screen’ material is the theatricality of the film and the feeling that you are there with the characters. Seeing it with an audience helps too. I saw it in 1992 or 3 in the Odeon at Cheapside in Reading. The print was scratched a bit which gave it that ‘grindhouse’ look.
