Tarantino Takes Liverpool
Among the topics of conversation, post on-screen-death-and-destruction, were Kubrick being “a pussy” for pulling A Clockwork Orange from its UK release, his alleged female foot fetish, and turning down the offer to direct an episode of Heroes because he’s “never seen the fucking show.”
I love when QT calls directors like Kubrick names. It makes me smile. It means hes in full QT cool mode.

I hope QT doesnt do a zombie movie for awhile. Im actually really sick of that damn genre. Fucking stupid zombies chasing people and being blown apart by assholes with guns. That shit is getting VERY stale.

LMAO at the protestors. Get a life losers!

yeah but at the same if he ever decides to tackle the genre, i’m sure his take on zombies will be quite unique

its funny, i was watching the downloaded grindhouse version of death proof with a girl mate of mine, and during the second car chase when zoes on the bonnet she said she liked the film so far but also ‘do you think tarantinos a bit of a sick pervert and just likes watching women get murdered, at least just for the sake of a good shot?’ i told her to wait a couple of minutes and after the revenge sequence she really loved it and agreed the best shot of the movie was the one of zoe straddling the car as if it were a horse whilst charging with the pole in her hand

i guess the concept is fucked up, but then thats the point - it was meant to be a slasher flick. though i love how theyve marketed it in the uk as a car chase movie with the new advert, coz at the end of the day it wants to be remembered for its car chase sequence

Very funny, you know those protestors haven’t seen the movie and were mislead by the trailers

didnt want to start a new post so ill ask here, did anyone catch tarantino’s q & a at the ritzy in brixton on sunday night? i really wanted to go but had work on :frowning:

Savage: I’m pretty sure QT was inspired alot by that book on slasher films: Men Women and Chainsaws. Its an examination of the role of gender in slasher films. QT definitely played alot with that aspect in Death Proof. From the relationships between both sets of the girls, their male relationships and Stuntman Mike himself turning from the rebel maniac into the battered bitch.

Oh, man, now that’s funny. “I’ve never seen that fucking show.” I haven’t seen it neither, but man that was funny.

Sorry, I’m still reading. A zombie movie!!! YESSSSSSSSSSSS!!! Fucking Quentin Jerome Tarantino, now that’s a bad motherfucker right there, he will be the new crowned king, I HOPE HE DOES IT, oh my god that is great fucking news! I’m so excited, if there’s a person that can master any genre it’s this man right there!

"I’m the king of cinema, bitch!"

QT DO IT, DO IT NOW!!!
He also touched on how he’d have rather cast ex-Bond Pierce Brosnan than Daniel Craig in Casino Royale
yeah i know… thats why i said it was meant to be a slasher flick (?)

a guy wanting to murder women with his car coz of the intensity of the crash etc IS fucked up, but im not saying QT was promoting violence against women, ive seen the flick bout ten times but even on the first its pretty obvious what hes getting at, esp with the second set of women with the driver talking bout fucking mike with her car ‘im the horniest muthafucker on the road!’

and i think its better its not marketed as a slasher flick coz i didnt tell my friends what it was about and so they were on the edge of their seats (or duvet, lol) throughout, wondering where it was gonna go next

Thats whats great about QT films, he mixes so many diff things into them you cant pin them down as one specific kind of movie.

I think the way he writes has alot to do with that. He always says he never tries to have a specific idea of where the story will go. He lets the characters go where theyre supposed to go.

yeah but i agree with henry, the first time i saw the film i was disapointed because i was expecting a qt version of a slasher but i hafta say, I didn’t think that it delivered the goods as a slasher. there are a couple of things, a few shots… but as far as I am concerned, those are more apetizers than real food. i saw the film 5 times at the cinema for the moment (and since it is now playing in our ONE remaining grindhouse, it will be a pleasure to go and watch it there) and i see it more as a comedy/car chasing film thus I enjoy it more and more…

Well I think QT started out writing it as a slasher flick but it became something else. Because he said before he wrote the script he had watched all his favorite slasher films. Its really a hybrid of the slasher film, Italian giallo, hangout/bar film, car chase film and girl gang film.

exactly. even the hangout can be related to the slasher genre in a way. Qt said so (“except that my dialog is wayyyy better than in the early 80s slashers”)
