Four Rooms (sucks)

Post by Bullet » Mon Nov 10, 2003 2:33 am

Did anyone find this movie as funny as people said it was? I sure as fuck didn't the first three stories are not funny or even mildly amusing. Qt's part was getting good until they all got drunk and it got weird and lame. Quentin should run from comedies.

The first one was not as good.
The second was funny.
The third was funny as hell.
The fourth was very weird.

They all blew ass INCLUDING TARANTINO'S PART, GET OFF THE MANS DICK.  Except for Robert Rodriguez's part, which was mediocre, the rest were god awful.

I'm not on his dick I thought his part was good for like the first 2 mins then it got weird and LAME. Part three was annoying in-your-face style slapstick humor.

I never saw this shitfest in its entirety. I happened to catch it very late one night and I thought I'd give it a chance, even though the day after I had university. The first section is one of the dumbest excuses of a story I have ever seen. I remember something about a witch swallowing sperm which was needed for a recipe or some shit like that. The second one was boring as fuck. All I remember is a woman (or was it a man?) tied to a chair. By the time it arrived to Rodriguez's part, I had switched the T.V. in frustration; probably missing the best parts. The only cool thing I remember from the movie is from the opening credits when Mr. Orange gets out of the Band Apart logo and transforms himself into the Four Rooms character.

I thought the film was crap. Tim Roth's performance was over done in my view. QT's story was the better story of the three, though I would never watch it again.

You know what's funny?  QT didn't even write his.  He just jacked it from Hitchcock.  R.R.'s part was funny, and I liked Roth, but other than that yeah, it sucked.

Tarantino ripped his whole story from something Hitchcock wrote? What was it? Damn, Tarantino is a sneaky rip off little bastard.

and I think there's like....already 2 other movies VERY similar to this......about a bellboy struggling between satisfying different hotel rooms.

Tarantino ripped the story off from one of the episode of Hitchock's t.v. show back in the 50's. i believe Steve McQueen was in the original episode, but i'm not sure

the episode is 'The Man From Rio' and it did have steve McQueen in it.

as for Four Rooms, the first three were horrible, even Rodriguez's. i liked the Hitchcockian style camera work (think of Rope with REALLY long, uncut shots).  the whole thing builds up to one funny part at the end. as a whole, it's ok.

let me clarify my response:
rodriguez's is not THE worst, it is much better than the first two (THE worst by far was the first one). although i didn't like rodriguez's short, i exagerated by calling it "horrible."
i didnt think it was really good or really bad, just ok.

That second one transcended quirky humor and became stupidity.  The first one blew.  QT's was kind of retarded.  But God its fun to watch Tim Roth vomit on a dead hooker while holding a syringe above his head as the porn infested hotel room burns to the ground.  Yeah.

FEEDBACK

I moved the following quote from the KILL BILL thread:
This is really the wrong thread in which to discuss Four Rooms, but Tim Roth's performance wasn't excessive.  It was exactly what the part needed (considering it was a mostly silent role) in my opinion.
I found him to be mincing around and shamelessly hamming the character up. The only time I enjoyed him in the film was in the Tarantino section where his character actually had a compelling enough situation where he could engage in the dramatic context of the scene as opposed to trying to kill time with awkward slapstick antics.

And for the record, I mildly enjoyed the Rodriguez short, thoroughly enjoyed the Tarantino section and couldn't stand the first two shorts. I felt sorry for Tim Roth that he had to hold it together with that very confused performance.

Tim Roth's motif for that evening was bodily fluids, wasn't it; Semen, vomit (Courtesy of Lawrence Bender), More Vomit, and blood.

I actually thought this movie was kind of funny; it was entertaining at least. I'm not saying this movie is great or even good, it's one of those crappy "guilty pleasure" type movies. I had heard that it was shitty before I saw it, so I had that attitude going into the movie, and I was surprised to find myself laughing out loud once or twice. It's a pointless piece of fluff, yes, but I still kind of liked it.
Except the first story. I thought that was just stupid.

I just saw this last night. The first two stories were stupid, I thought the third story was funny and the last one was just weird.

The only stories I liked were Quentin and Robert's, even though they weren't up to par for these two directors.

Ted got annoying to me five minutes into the film.
I got a date with the night, burnin' down my finger, gonna catch the kids dry, gonna walk on water, buyin' out the fight, we're sweatin in the winter, hold my hand and squeeze tight, chow, chow, chow, chow, chow, chow, chow, chow, chow, chow

The first one for me was just an excuse to show boobs,
which I guess is okay. :-/

The second is dumb, it had some interesting parts, but most of it made no sense.

The third was pretty funny, some boring parts, but I loved the ending to that one.

The forth was pretty good, I think Quintin was poking fun at himself, the way he is known for having dialouge and scenes that are useless, but funny.
I mean the whole story was about getting Tim Roth's Charecter to chop off their freinds hand, if he fails the bet, and it dragged on to where he finnaly did it!

Funny story.

The first story was dumb, I was so hoping that one of the stories would be about the party upstairs, I was sure this was going to happen after they ordered up some ice.  :'(

Awwwww yeah.  R.I.P Wesley Willis.

Also, I have chosen not to watch this movie for obvious reasons.  I doubt that I will ever see it.

By the way, whatever happened to Badmotherfucker?

robert rodriquez' film was great, even tarantinos one wasnt that good but anythings better then the opening twos filmic equivalent of pure shit.

tim roth was embarrasing, it just looks like he was trying to impersonate lee evans stand up routine. (brit readers will now evans, he was also in something  bout mary as the architect/pizza guy but his stand up was really physical, EXACTLY what roths trying to do in four rooms)

The third was insanely funny.  I don't know what you guys were smoking.

And for the life of me, I can't get tired of QT's characters, no matter how fucking full of it and masturbatory they are.  The comedic timing of the ending of his story was perfect.

As for Tim Roth, I guess most of the folks watching it were pretty detached with the horrible first two stories (while both of them were extremely bad, I absolutely hated the second one especially - the ending was a kind of half-baked Kids in the Hall ripoff), so the amazing comedic transformation that Roth underwent was hardly noticeable.  I, however, was enjoying his presence through the entire thing, no matter how awful the characters and situations became.  At the beginning of the movie he was a wet-behind-the-ears rookie, and by the end he was a disturbed, corrupted, blubbering mess of a human being, and this happened all in the course of one night.  In addition to this massive transformation, he was responsible for portraying four separate interpretations of his character (he stayed relatively the same, but there were lots of differences throughout, especially in the second segment), and I think he played each one out very well.  He was a tiny redeeming factor for the deplorable first half.

Four Rooms and You Got Served are two of the best movies to come out in the last 20 years.
