Tarantino reacts to Die Hard 4's PG-13 rating

I met Tarantino at LA recently(he was with Eli Roth), and i asked him only one question:

What do you think of Live Free or Die Hard getting a PG-13 rating?

He gave me one of the best answers ever:

"Fuck Rupert Murdoch. He turned John McClane into a wimp."

I agree 100% with him.

and so do i

Bruce Willis is unhappy with the studio’s decision to give ‘Live Free or Die Hard’ a PG-13 rating because it restricted his swearing.

He said: ‘It does make it a little more difficult. They don’t want to see a lot of blood squirting out of bad guys. You can still do a lot of horrific things - you just can’t say the word ‘fk’ more than twice.

‘Saying f
k every other sentence is part of the vernacular of ‘Die Hard’.’ Despite the language restrictions, Willis claims the film - in which he tackles an internet-based terrorist organisation - is just as good as the original 1988 movie.

He told Vanity Fair magazine: ‘But we still have a pretty hard-core smash-mouth film. I really wanted this one to live up to the first one, which I always thought was the only really good one.’

The guy who pretty much set up the ratings board died a month back and from what i’ve been reading from different movie forums no one misses him.

That’s what is wrong with the US rating system. They have PG-13 and then nothing before R. It’s stupid. Matrix got an R for Christ’s sake. The same rating as Kill Bill. It makes no sense. In Australia, Kill Bill got an R18+ and Matrix got a recommended M15+. The US is strict and tight with the PG-13 rating and then those who don’t make it, even if it is only by the slightest bit of swearing or violence have to jump all the way to R. They have no inbetween.

And Die Hard (the original) got an M15+. Essentially M15+ is the Australian equivalent of PG-13 except that anyone can see it, but they recommend that you are over 15. I point this out solely because it is what I think the US should do. Add in some recommended ratings as well as restricted ones and not have such a big leap from PG-13 to R.

Think about it, with the M15+ rating we can have all the swearing and violence still there, but all the young kids are going to see it at the cinemas too. They don’t have to worry about the restrictions that the PG-13 rating has.

Who really gives a shit about ratings? I dont see what the bitching is all about. I guess if I was a 12 year old I may be mad because I had to watch PG movies by myself but guess what? No 12 year olds are driving themselves to the movies. So anyone can see any film as long as its not xxx. So who gives a fuck? People will bitch about anything. If a film studio wants less violence or the word “fuck” (which is the word that gets you a r rating) used less in their film whats wrong with that? Its their studio to do as they please. If you dont like a film because it has less cussing, nudity, killing but the story is still good youre a worthless pant wad. Ratings serve as a guideline for parents to police their brat kids. I wouldnt want my kids watching a fuck flick either.

here in aus we have a pretty good system for ratings

But it’s stupid to have to change a script because of that. John McClane is a cursing character, it’s strange to change that just because of some stupid rating system.

sequels suck anyways…

but i doubt rupert murdoch has a say in any of that…

does anyone know if the script was PG-13 material ir did they film stuff that would make a kickass die hard flick released perhaps on DVD?

I think the same thing happened with Robocop 3 as well. I’ll still the new Die Hard of course, but can’t guarentee it will be as good without the “F-word” every five minutes. LoL

this is gona suck now i fuckin hate pg-13 action and horror flicks and most of the comedys too. pg-13 is fuckin trash.

Dood thats silly. Why would anyone hate any film just because its PG13 or any other rating? Does cussing make the story better? How the fuck does fuck make a film better? Violence doesnt make a film better either. Look at Pulp Fiction, most of the violent content is not even seen but you know its happening. Great stories can be told without using cussing as a crutch.

Why does anyone want to here a bunch of cuss words? A story can still be great without a single “fuck”. If saying fuck made a movie great then it would be easy to write a blockbuster because I can spell fuck really well. Is my post really good because I used fuck alot? Hope you fucking like it!

BTW, how old is everyone here?

Only thing where I don’t agree with you is horror-films. I’m not saying I’m going to a horror-movie just for the gore, but if that’s what a movie says it has it has to be there: And with a PG13-rating I doubt it’s there…

pg-13 is often trash not because MPAA just happened to give the film a pg-13 rating but because the studio was aiming at the pg-13 and compromises were made to achieve it.

don’t contradict youself man, pulp fiction is fulled with cussing and violance and yes the violence is off screen but if the violance offscreen wasent filmed correctly then it would have got a pg-13, tarantino gives an impact with his violence unlike these new pg-13 films, and thats the problam with pg-13 movies they film the violence like shit.

And I really highly doubt that dialog in films like goodfellas, casino, Taxi driver, Reservoir dogs, pulp fiction, kill bill, and jackie brown and many more would flow as good without cussing hence giving it a PG-13 rating.

dunno if this warrants a new topic so im not going to bother, but…

considering new yorks outlawed the use of the ‘n’ word what does this mean for a flick like death proof if its released as a single movie in cinemas (will it come out in this form in american cinemas still?) or dvd? part of this move has been to ask the grammys to not nominate any artist that uses the word, but what about films? would they try to make the film, or any other future tarantino film that uses the word, illegible for things like the ‘new york critics’ awards? right now theyve just been focusing on music since that whole ‘nappy headed ho’ comment on the radio… lol

people take movies way to serious i mean y cant you use the word. racist or not but u can say racial slurs to any other ethnic backround and still be accepted this is bullshit.
