QT doing JAMES BOND "Casino Royale"?

I was just at CHUD and they posted a blurb from QT about being interested in remaking the James Bond film Casino Royale with Pierce Brosnan, who would be leaving the franchise afterwards.

If this actually happens, what would you think about it? Personally, I havent been into James Bond for years, but if QT did this film, Id have to see where he took it.

I like the original Casino Royale, it was pretty fun. I also like the older Bond films. I think if QT did this he would do it more with an old school flavor on a lower budget which would be cool.

I’m not into Bond films, but being a QT fan I would definetely watch it. Even though I have to say that I’d certainly prefer to see a war film, a western or a giallo than the Bond film from QT.

The older Bond films rock, the last few have been real disapointing. A QT bond film would be interesting but I think he wouldn’t pull it off. I would rather prefere a western anyhow.

that casino royale rumor is already a bit older

I thought he had given up on this after having his Casino Royale offer rejected back in '96 or whatever period of time following the release of Goldeneye. Who knows though? Given how much the Bond movies following Goldeneye SUCKED, maybe the studios would be willing to let someone with a less-than-family-oriented reputation get ahold of the franchise, if just to breath new life into it.
Am I the only one that thinks it’s impossible? We are talking about QT right? How is QT going to downsize himself to write an orthodox cuss-free family friendly Bond flick? The Bond license would never be given to QT, the main reason because Bond and QT are two totally different calibers. It’s like mixing oil and water. Bond’s movies have always been light, fluffy, family friendly popcorn flicks. QT’s movies and style are the exact opposite of that.
Hm...good point, Dead Nigga I agree totally!

And we shouldn't take this shit seriously, QT is always saying he "is interested" in making a movie. From GTA Vice City to an Airplane Thriller, to James Bond, to an Italian gangster film to....shit, just take what he says with a grain of salt.

First of all, even though I posted it, the GTA rumor is pretty much unsubstantiated at the moment. I posted that topic asking if anyone had any solid information on it. So far, nothing. Secondly, QT just might make that Itallian giallo (sp?) and the same goes for the Airplane thriller.

Finally, Casino Royale stands just as good a chance of being made as any of the aforementioned films. Its not like QT is just going to STOP making movies between (since QT said he doesn’t feel up to another epic just yet) Inglorious Bastards and after Inglorious Bastards. And he doesn’t necessarily have to water himself down for a Bond film. QT’s dialogue is more than just a string of curses and pop culture references. Its much more sophisticated than that, and I’m sure, being a Bond fan himself, QT has more respect for the franchise than to simply devolve it into a f-bomb, splatter filled mess.

QT knows movies, and by virtue of that, QT knows BOND movies. He knows the rules and limitations of the universe he’s working within just as he understand the rule and limitations of the Elmore Leonard universe and Jackie Brown turned out great. If anyone is capable of breathing new life into the Bond series, its QT.

Here is the full blurb froM CHUD with QUOTES from QUENTIN’S MOUTH:

Quentin Tarantino’s lining up more and more projects now that Kill Bill Vol 2 is approaching its theatrical release. First up: possible Kill Bill anime.

“Yeah, I’ve been thinking about revisiting the story in a couple of ways, said the director. “I’ve been thinking about doing it as an anime feature that would tell the entire origin of Bill. Another possibility, Tarantino said, would be a life story of Nikki, the young girl whose mother was killed by the Bride in Vol 1.

Another possibility for Tarantino? James Bond.

“Wouldn’t it be great to have a James Bond movie that didn’t cost $115 million and only cost $40 million or something like that?” he asks. "You know it’s going to make its money back, and we [would] all do good. Maybe we win the critics this time, then you’re back in business the way you were before."

He’s hoping to adapt Casino Royale (which has already been filmed – as a comedy starring Peter Sellers and Woody Allen) as the final Pierce Brosnan Bond film. "They’ve got this gigantic franchise, they can’t do anything wrong with it. Pierce Brosnan’s only going to do one more movie for them, if that, so if he stayed on to do one more with me, let’s just this one year go my way and do it a little differently. I won’t do anything that will ruin the series."

Of course the Broccoli family, who control the Bond empire like Blofeld controls his underground lairs – ruthlessly, and as different actors – have in the past nixed strong directors. It seems they would rather drive the franchise into the ground with stupidity and banality.

Although it seems about as likely as a Russ Meyer Bond movie, a QT 007 would be a fascinating proposition. The Bond series could use a big injection of style…

For anyone who’s interested, the kind of purists’ Bond film that QT would probably appreciate is described in an article at:

http://www.geocities.com/simonbermuda

about an abortive 1956 attempt by Orson Welles to make a low-budget, black-and-white adaptation of Ian Fleming’s James Bond novel Moonraker.

That’ll be very weird…I can’t imagine a tarantino-Bond movie, especially the latest bond movies realy kinda suck,I hate all those special effects.

i really hope Tarantino will go for this.

as much as I loved Halle Berry, but those all-action films dont do it for me. i want clever spy movies, not action spy movies. but I still want sexy chicks in bikinis

Exactly - the over-the-top goofy ass special effects ruined the flicks and Pierce did nothing to save them either.

Make mine Connery

Ive had enough of the spy movie shit. Ive seen almost all the Bond films, Matt Helm films, Derek Flint films, Austin Powers, XXX, etc etc.

Id much rather see QT do another kind of film, no remake of some ancient Bond film Ive already seen.

QT needs to do another original film. Something smaller than Kill Bill before he does Inglorious Bastards.

I hear hes also directing a chapter of Robert Rodriguez’s Sin City adaptation. So if he does that, then goes into Bastards or another small giallo or crime film, that would be great.

I want QT to do a film based on the Mafia, kinda like Goodfellas and The Godfather, i really like that genre and to see QT make that kind of movie would be a dream come true!! Ok he has allready made a kind of gangster film but i mean a pure gangster film that is purely about gangsters and the mafia!!

If spy movies have been overdone, the mafia has been fuckin done to death. I’d rather see Tarantino do Bond than go back into straight up crime flicks again. Leave that stuff to Martin Scorsese for a little while longer.

No, there are more spy films than Mafia films. There are 20 Bond films alone. I think QT is a genius at making crime films. Anyway, even if he does a genre that has been overdone, QT aint exactly gonna make a similar film to others belonging to that genre is he, it is going to be his own unique style and therefore fail to disappoint. QT and Scorcese both have their own styles and i like Tarantino’s better.

I WOULD want QT to do a bond film as he would add coolness to the franchise but i’m just saying i’d like it better if he made his own gangster film. It would also be cool for him to do a straight up Spaghetti Western without any other genres cutting in on it (where Clint Eastwood and Eli Wallach have cameos)!! but then that’s just me, and that probably wont happen!!

Theres other subgenres in the Crime category other than just Mafia films tho. I really doubt that QT will be doing any more crime films for a while. Personally, I dont want to see anymore Mafia/gangster films. Ive been there done that.

As far as spy movies go, Id rather see QT do his own original spy movie than a remake, but like I said before, Ill go see anything he does.

Even if it were a musical???
Even if it were a musical???
Sure! I know if QT was to do a musical it would be something really crazy. He said he loves Little Shop of Horrors, so maybe it would be that type of thing. I saw that when I was a kid, it was fun.
