The cerebral half of Quentin Tarantino’s two part revenge epic, the breathtaking Kill Bill Vol. 2 follows “The Bride” (Uma Thurman) on her quest for the blood of the partners who betrayed her. Having checked O-Ren Ishii (Lucy Liu) and Vernita Green (Vivica A. Fox) off her death list, Budd (Michael Madsen) and Elle Driver (Daryl Hannah) are next in line before her showdown with the calmly psychotic Bill (a brilliant David Carradine).

While Kill Bill Vol. 1 was a nonstop chop-socky extravaganza, Tarantino injects wide open spaces and other western influences into Vol. 2 to create a cocktail that is just as much Serge Leone as it is Shaw Brothers. Which is not to say that there isn’t plenty of violence for those who crave it. If anything, it’s even more extreme in this installment, thanks to the simmering psychological dynamics that slowly emerge. And perhaps the most welcome part of this film is Tarantino’s trademark dialogue. While fans of “Reservoir Dogs” and “Pulp Fiction” may have been let down by the lack of loopy exchanges in Vol. 1, Vol. 2 dishes them up in spades, ensuring Kill Bill’s place in the rapidly growing list of Tarantino film masterpieces.

In addition to the feature film, this extremely limited Japan-only Premium Box includes a reversible jacket featuring two characters from the movie (first pressing only), making-of featurette, unreleased scenes, footage from the premier party, trailers
