Best Character Introductions

What are your favorite character introductions? You know, the ones that make you go “Holy shit, this dude’s awesome!”, or “This girl’s cool!” from the first seconds he or she gets introduced on screen? The way the director uses the camera to introduce the character to the film, you know that he/she’s gonna be a big deal and mean business. Some of my favs:

Kakihara - Ichi The Killer

Frank - OUATITW

The Terminator - The Terminator

Lisa - Rear Window

Alex - Clockwork Orange

James Bond - Dr. No

Pai Mei - Kill Bill Vol. 2

David - The Lost Boys

I’m certainly forgetting tons.

1. Lee Van Cleef, Eli Wallach & Clint Eastwood - The Good, The Bad & The Ugly

2. Charles Bronson - Once Upon a Time in The West

3. Lee Van Cleef - For a Few Dollars More

4. Sean Connery - Dr.No

5. Humphrey Bogart - Casablanca

6. Gian Maria Volonte - For a Few Dollars More

7. David Carradine - Kill Bill

8. Chow Yun Fat - The Killer

9. Tarantino & Clooney - From Dusk Till Dawn

10. Gordon Liu - Kill Bill Vol. 2

and Joaquin Phoenix - Walk The Line

All the characters in Sergio Leones westerns.

One I especcialy like is:

  • John Mallory in Giu la Testa

  • Bill in Kill Bill Vol. 2

It’s so great how you see his face for the first time.

Funny how 2 of those people share the same introductory piece of music.

I’ll agree with that.

I love all of Scar’s picks.

Leone was the master of this. Every character intro for OUATITW is gold. Juan in Fistful/Dynamite might be my most favorite though.
