The Last Exorcism

There may already be a topic about this, but I’ve yet to see anything …

What’s everyone’s thoughts on the the new Eli Roth pic coming soon? Pretty sure they just put up the trailer on the web somewhere. I would post a link but I’m on my phone and wouldn’t have a clue how to do that on here. (Technological Idiot) From what I’ve seen it looks pretty creepy. It’s bound to scare me, coz I still have nightmares and mental scarring from The Exorcist, but I love Eli Roth’s movies and am looking forward to seeing what it’s like.

http://thelastexorcism.com/ Looks interesting enough. Done in documentary style, which kinda bugs me. 'cause all I keep thinking about when I watch this trailer is the M.Knight. whatever movie. I can never remember his name. B something witch. I don’t know it’s 3am and I’m up for some damn reason. Anyways, here’s a pic from the movie. I LOVE the poster, I just hope the movie lives up to it.

Feels to me every low budget horror pic is taking this approach, docu style. Not impressed. Scare me with some old fashioned cinematography and camera work and I’m grinning from ear to ear, after I’ve pissed myself of course. That takes craftsmanship.

I agree 100%. My first thoughts when I was watching the beginning of the trailer was, ‘this looks cheap’. BUT, I still gave it a chance. Cheap doesn’t necessarily mean bad. We’ll see in August.

here’s an early review of the film.

I think on the one hand I agree with you guys about mockumentary style. I can’t say I’m a big fan of it. I think it can be used well when it’s a part of the story. When there is a reason for it.

I think that the Last Exorcism is a little different to films like Blair Witch and Paranormal Activity though. They are essentially “home video footage” compilations. The Last Exorcism, on the other hand, and I can’t say this for sure having only seen a trailer, looks like more like Man Bites Dog, where a “film crew” is setting out to make a doco about this last exorcism.

In that case, the style is very important. It also provides an opportunity to tell the story in a way that conventional filmmaking perhaps couldn’t.

From the buzz, I’m gonna go see it. And I agree, sometimes the ‘mokumentary’ film style can be well used. I remember some scary scenes from ‘Quarantine’ for example. I liked the mix of both in that movie.

Excited to see this right now, just saw The Exorcist after now seeing it in a while and a new Exorcist movie that isn’t absolutely retarded sounds pretty good to me. God knows this looks better than shit like Emily Rose.

Interesting.
