IB in Germany

Hi guys,

i feel kinda afraid when i think of IB and whats gonna happen to it in Germany. As you may have noticed, they even cut the swastikas from all artworks, which really upsets me. Every 5 year old here already hears what the Nazis did, you can so often see WW2 stuff on german tv, every 10 year old here exactly knows what evil stuff the Nazis did, but they cut out swastikas on artworks for a adult movie? Whats this? There are exact documentaries about how evil jews were killed at prime time in TV, they even show swastikas on a famous german comedy show (switch), all on times where kids are watching.

Its not only the artwork, i fear its only the tip of the iceberg, i can easly see 10 minutes of dialogoue cut. Japan got a uncut KB as it plays in Japan, but im really scared of seeing a version that cuts out like everything that makes it WW2.

Im not a nazi, i hate what they did, but its a goddamn movie and i want it to be complete.

(And im sure it will be raped like hell by german press)

Am i overreacting or do other germans have the same fear of a REALLY censored shit version?

Am I correct in thinking Germany is really tough on what they allow to be shown in the country? Or was that Austria? Anyway, if it IS edited down to that extent in Germany, you can save your euros and catch a train to France or Holland or Belgium, and see the entire thing there.

Fuck, I’d do that anyway if I were you. You guys don’t really understand how lucky you are to be so close to other countries and cultures. I’m close to Mexico, but come on, it’s MEXICO. No one wants to go there.

Don’t worry that much, I’m not german but I think they cut the swastikas from trailer and posters because it is publicity. In france they do the same with cigarettes and such, because of the laws. They won’t go as far as re-editing the movie. And if they do, I suggest you to make big noise, go in the streets shouting your discontent.

I don’t think Basterds will have problems in Germany, for the following reasons:

  • it’s got major funding from german semi-state-owned funds and they are interested in this movie to make BIG BUCK
  • it’s full of German stars, it was shot in Germany
  • it will be restricted to adults anyway, so there’s not too much more they can restrict, since the movie won’t glorify the 3rd Reich or any of the crimes. the opposite is the case
  • the movie will be violent, but most of it in the usual comedic, Tarantino tone
  • to my knowledge, no Tarantino movie has ever been censored in Germany (exception: FDTD and only for the Rated-16 DVD/TV versions)

it’s germany. austria is more liberal.

Well, on the censorship thing, Planet Terror on my german DVD is more like Planet Teletubbies…

ok im overreacting, but honestly it got cut bad. I didnt even see QTs dick melting, what a shame

that’s why I said Tarantino movies, not Rodriguez movies. And you can buy the uncut Planet Terror if you find a good DVD retailer or just order from the UK (which censored pulp fiction and still does so on DVD) …

The UK has censored PF on DVD?

Censoring movies on DVDs or theaters, on something you buy? wow I’m shocked. I would understand if it was for TV broadcasting. This is the worst crime ever. Ok I’m exaggerating but still, it’s a sin against freedom of creativity and speech. I thought we were beyond that in Europe. Oh well.

I actually was just refering to the fact we in Germany get our movies censored hard ( if i wanted i could now argue that QT is in Planet Terror and it was shown together with a QT movie, but lets put that aside  )

My only fear here is not really only violence, but much rather the dialogue, i mean i only got a Teaser and its censored already, im pretty sure nazis talk bad about jews in this movie … it will get cut im afraid, and then it shows all germans as evil and we got some other ppl who surely cry about that, and in the end we get no anti-jew and no anti-german stuff in a nazi movie. great.

I seriously doubt it’ll be cut like that. It could be just that they’re trying to not offend anyone on German Television… (liberalism)…

Sebby? You’re in Germany. I thought you said it wouldn’t be as big of a deal as the tabloids were trying to make it out to be.

Larry, come on - yes in germany heavy violence gets cut sometime, but not “offensive content” like you described.

yes I agree with Kenny

and Geoi, just read my very above post again. i think IB won’t be a huge deal censorship-wise, if at all. this has no chance of getting released as FSK16, so it will be rated for 18 years and over, and once you’re there, there’s not much to censor anymore. unless there’s glorification of violance and hatred, which i dont think the censorship board will see in this film, not to mention the aforementioned entanglement and success-interest of the german movie industry (which gives itself the ratings) with this movie

I cant read or speak German, but don’t they censor the first trailer? Brad Pitt seems to be saying, “We will be cruel to the Nazi” instead of “the German.”

Will the movie be dubbeb in Germany? Or do they show original version? Because the trailer is dubbeb and Germans dub almost everything (at least on the TV, correct me if I’m wrong). I’m not living in Germany, I was just thinking. Sorry, if this was a stupid question…

everything will be dubbed! Im sure I´m from germany they even dubb porns!! i saw this onces....they dubb the screams etc.<E>:)</E>:) that sound s so funny but i dont quite know what will be with ib because german censorship…is very unpredictable…for example…hostel 2 were cut to the ground or tcm-the beginning and saw was shown uncut and so planet terror…it`s really weird in our country:) but i love to see nazi get smashed…

Man… I feel sorry for you… They’ll destroy the original audio… :frowning:

yeah you know most of the time it sucks for example Death Proof…it sounds so shitty dubbed it looses the flow and rythm of the voice and the dialog but sometimes the dubbed version canbe very good like the big lebowski or there will be blood…but i thank god for blu ray and dvd…

Do Germans not have their own porn… … :-</E>

yes we have:) but we import everthing:)
