Funny, when I went for the 3rd time on Tuesday I took my mom. She really dug it, although she had problems with the La Louisiana scene. Thought it went on too long.

I was most worried about the violence. She really can’t stand to see it. But she got through it by turning her head at the goriest scenes. Actually I don’t really like the violence that much either. Like I’ve said in other topics I didn’t mind Kill Bill’s violence because it was over the top like a cartoon. In this movie the only violence I was cheering on was the slaughtering of the Nazis in the final act. The scalping and the beating with the baseball bat and the choke scene and the carving of the swastika at the end were a little much. I think it’s just as effective and sometimes even more effective if violence is implied rather than explicitly shown (like the shooting of the Dreyfus family at the beginning - all you see is bullet holes but it’s still shocking as hell). Having said that, it didn’t prevent me from enjoying the movie so much that I saw it thrice. ;D
I went with my parents and brother for my 3 time too. They loved it. My mom was really into it, especially during the revenge of the giant face she looked like she wanted to cheer !
And my brother, who usually likes Sci-Fi or strictly action movies, really loved it too. When it ended he told me he didn’t remember watching such a good movie in a long time. Considering he loved all the Fast and Furious movie, that made me really happy to see he could enjoy good cinema

My mom also saw Inglourious Basterds a couple of days ago, and even though she was a bit skeptical about the subject before, after she saw it, she said that she loved the movie too. And as my mom grew up in a socialist Poland (‘People’s Republic of Poland’: 1952-1989) she said she got to watch those kind of movies - the ‘bunch-of-a-guys-on-a-misson’-/ fictional-stories-set-in-WW2-movies - all the time, as they were non-stop on the TV. And that’s why she spot “a dozen movie references per minute” in Inglourious Basterds… and I think that’s so cool

We’re talking about mums here. Hell, I watch everything with my dad. I watched Boys Don’t Cry with my dad. That’s what dads do. They were basically the same as you when they were young. Mums are harder to please. Although, one of my mum’s favourite films is De Palma’s Femme Fatale. So, I guess it really just has to be a good film.
