You wanna know what torture is? Here in Brazil the movie opens JAnuary 30th.  Now THAT’s a fucking torture.
wahahaaaha… no sorry, I feel bad :frowning:

According to IMDB it opens December 12th in Brazil. Are you really sure it opens January 30th? Can anyone explain why movies always opens later in countries like Brazil (and sometimes Sweden). What´s the logic behind that?

I’m not sure, but it could be for a number of reasons. The most obvious of which is that they have to change the language or add subtitles. Another could be for the same reason that they open a lot of movies in LA and New York earlier, because people follow trends. If people see that everyone in LA loves a movie, then they will go see it. Also, if it makes little money in the US, then chances are it will make less everywhere else, so they’ll release it to less theatres. Again, just speculation.

There might be two reasons. I don’t know if Brazil is one of those countries where all the movie and TV contents are dubbed or voiceovered (or what the hell do you call it in English) into Portuquese. In that case they have to do their own casting and act the movie out in your own language, which, of course takes a lot of extra time, is a total rape of the movie art and thus, sucks ass.

Reason two: This movie is considered to be far too violent and gore to be shown in your country as it is. There might be some kind of censorship laws that prevent the original uncut movie. We in Finland had such a ridiculous film material law until we joined the EU. If there is one good thing the EU ever did, this is it. Thank god.

In the latter case they have to recut the material to fit their views of a suitable film, which, of course takes a lot of extra time, is a total rape of the movie art and thus, sucks ass.
Seb, “Kill Bill DVDrip” on Kazaa, a bogus porn file containing a computer virus? Man, who could have guessed?  ;D
no it was just an .avi file called “kill bill”, it could’ve been some dude with a camcorder from a test-screening… well, bad luck, haha

Thanks for the review! I can’t wait to see it!
I’m glad you liked it, but you don’t have to rape the Caps Lock… ::slight_smile:
HAHAHAHAHA!!!
I LOVE IT WHEN PEOPLE RAPE THE CAP LOCK.
I love this kid!

I’m not sure but I think that the reason behind this laaaaate release is greed.

Summer here is in December/January and because of this a lot of movies releases are pushed to this time of year.

And thanks for the information Babe. I guess they decided to advance “Kill Bill” to January 9th. They are probably getting excited with all the buzz around the movie. But still is a very long wait.

Do you guys believe that none of the trailers have been shown in theaters?

In Belgium Kill Bill comes out in theatres on the 29th, but I just found out today that there is a Tarantino night the 25th.

Pulp Fiction, Jackie Brown and Kill Bill for a mere 15 €. It is going to be sooo sweet, I can’t hardly wait!!!

I wont go into great detail as Im sure that by reading at least 3 reviews you have a good idea of what makes Kill Bill so fucking fantastic.I went to a special screening last night, and all I can say is - WOW

now around the time of June I started to become a little disillussioned with the film running over schedule and everything.I was scared it might turn into another Gangs Of New York type situation.well last night,I was reminded that I should always have 100% faith in Tarantino.cinema is in much need of an action revolution and it looks like this could kickstart that

visually,Kill Bill is just amazing.I know its Tarantino and you dont expect anything less, but in this department he really has surpassed anything he has previously done on a technical level. The Bride vs GoGo - Tarantino fucking NAILED IT! every influence he has ever soaked up is used to absolute perfection.the zoomshots, the splitscreens, the black and white - all fit in with such incredible ease like I have never seen before.Uma is so badass.perfect.just perfect.a cold, ruthless killing machine

every review I have read has tried to compare it to his previous films, and all I can think is why? no,this doesnt have the dialogue youre used to,but isnt that the whole point? he has already proven that he is the best when it comes to that.this is him showing us what he can do with an action film.if it didnt already, the matrix reloaded now looks like the biggest piece of shit ever.no wonder QT was so confident in ripping the matrix a new hole.to be fair though,Kill Bill makes any action film of the last decade look like a piece of shit

I posted my Kill Bill partial experience here (w/ a pic of me and Gordon Liu) at Austin Regional Premiere and somehow ended up sitting next to one of the 3rd unit directors for the movie:

During the violent parts of the movie people were openly GASPING w/ cries of “OHHHH MYYYYY” - while at the same time others were laughing out loud hysterically (Close to tears)… while I looked around and saw others openly dancing in their movie chairs to the music… all of this colliding at the same moment provided one of the most interesting cinematic theater experiences I’ve had.

I absolutely loved KILL BILL… and I had high hopes… so much much better than I could have ever hoped or had any right to as a QT fan or movie fan… the only negative for me was one scene in the movie that I thought played pretty flat… and the fact during the House of Blue Leaves scene their appeared what I guess was a digital stamp (that studios now put on film prints of movies to track them from bootlegging)… and this stamp was so obvious and out of place it took me out of the movie for a bit. Other than that I can’t wait to see this movie 30 more times at the theater… can’t wait for vol. 2.

What was the scene that you thought played pretty flat?

I saw the movie myself today so you can give me a general idea without giving too much away for people who haven’t seen it yet.

Fucking great movie!!!

BEST PARTS

SONNY CHIBA!!!

The opening "shot"

The brutal anime

The epilogue

"I collect your Fucking head"

Elle visits The Comotose bride whistling "Twisted Nerve"

Buck the Pimp

Pussy Wagon

Charlie Brown

"one tall glass of cocksucker"

Sofie Fatales loss

House of Blue Leaves

  • Breakdance of death
  • Axe in the head
  • Go-Go
  • “Death Rides a Horse” by Ennio Morricone
  • The aftermath
  • Scalped
  • The stylistic changes
  • Hanzo steel

    FUCKING AWESOME MOVIE

House of Blue Leaves is the greatest action sequence I’ve ever seen in my life.

Fuck the lightsabre, I want a Hanzo sword

I’ve seen the movie twice. The only scene I didn’t 100% get is the Buck scene. I wasn’t sure if I was supposed to laugh or be disgusted. Other than that I thought it was great. I don’t really dig anime but I digested it better on second viewing. The House of Blue Leaves sequence is for my money the best action sequence I’ve ever seen in a movie. The only other part I had any reserves about

THE REST IS A SPOILER

is when the girl walks into the kitchen. it was like he was asking us “is violence really fun to watch?”. cause the previous scene gets you all primed up then the girl walks in and you’re like “oh…”. i dunno for the movie it was in it seemed a little out of place, because on the whole it celebrates violence. maybe it’s just me. i need to see the second half of the movie before i have a real opinion on it, but the first half was exactally what Tarantino promised it to be. an action packed adrenaline rush.

The scene where we see Bill partially shot (out of frame), slowly holding the sword. That just played extremely flat to me. It just felt like it was missing something… I’ll have to see the movie a couple more times.

Other thoughts, etc., (spoilers):

  • Towards the end of the House of Blue Leaves scene when you see all the bodies laying there cut up and so forth, they actually brought in real amputee’s for that.
  • how cool it was that they filmed Uma getting from the back seat of the wagon to the front seat - a fact most movies wouldn’t even care to show.
  • The cameo (in the form of advertisement) by Red Apple cigarettes (Pulp Fiction).
  • Hearing partial Truck Turner theme blasted on a movie theater sound system (note: I know there is also a track from Run Fay Run used elsewhere).
  • The use of Quincy Jones - “Ironside”… brilliant touch
  • The Sonny Chiba sake scene where Uma first meets him… is a scene I could rewatch endlessly.
  • I like the fact that Uma’s character wasn’t completely invincible… she did get knocked down… so it wasn’t just all one sided Uma kicking ass… which allowed me to get more involved w/ her character as she goes on her rampage of revenge.
  • I wonder if every movie w/ Uma and Tarantino will feature her suddenly springing back to life (overdose sequence in Pulp and now awaking from coma here).
  • The anime sequence has a spaghetti western score to it. Two genre’s fused together perfectly.
  • A lot of the violence in House of Blue Leaves scene reminded me of Lone Wolf and Cub… so it really didn’t shock me, so much as make me wonder and smile how the movie got an R. Can’t wait to see the Japanese cut.
  • Lots of feet shots in the movie (gee wonder why?)
  • Song by Santa Esmeralda - “Don’t Let Me Be Misunderstood” is partially used to set up the fight between Uma and Lucy Liu… a final showdown w/ a score/song like this… was an incredibly cool touch.
  • Before the action gets rolling in the House of Blue Leaves scene… the camerawork and nocuts… were pure brilliance… they went around capturing one money shot from the other… until it ends w/ the incredible closeup of Uma turning around from the bar. ASC Robert Richardson talks about this shot in Oct. issue of American Cinematographer magazine.
  • I haven’t seen a movie flow this cinematically in rhythm since Hoh Mung Wa’s movie “The Kiss of Death” starring Lo Lieh and Chan Ping… from the cinematography, to each snippet of music or score… to the editing, lighting, etc.,… every aspect seemed in complete harmony here to tell the Bride’s story cinematically.
  • I think Tong Gaai would find it cool that decades later someone influenced by the action he did in the Shaw Brothers movie for director Chang Cheh - “Vengeance (1970)”… would find itself in a movie with two females battling it furiously in “Vengeance” style… and resulting not in blood spilt everywhere… but Kaboom! cereal. “Vengeance” has two incredible sequences that go on for about 5-7 minutes each where we see one guy go against about 30-50 others using medium sized knives/blades and shorter one’s as well… furious as hell action/violence.

Great reviews here! Keep em coming! I have 1 hour and 47 minutes until my ass in the seat with some popcorn finally watching this fabulous film!

Saw Kill Bill last night at Midningt. FUCKING GREAT! The movie was exactly what I wanted and kept me wanting Vol.2. I’ll see this sucker at least two more times in the theater and then at least once when it goes to the cheap 2nd run theater (hopefully Vol 2 will be nearing releace). The movie was everything we were promised. And to think, the really good stuff is coming for Vol 2. Can’t wait. /

I think the feet shots are becoming another of QT's trademarks like the trunk shots. Remember the close-up shot of Melanie's feet in Jacke Brown, and Uma's feet in Pulp as she's walking towards Vincent before saying "Let's go"? Anyway, great insight on the movie man; I loved reading ever word of it. You really know your shit.
